{"id":199,"date":"2015-06-05T19:46:56","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T19:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toby200.net\/oliver\/?p=199"},"modified":"2015-06-24T20:41:22","modified_gmt":"2015-06-24T20:41:22","slug":"into-the-llangollen-canal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toby200.net\/oliver\/?p=199","title":{"rendered":"Into the Llangollen Canal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>5th June 2015<\/p>\n<p>Great excitement this morning when the engine hours digital read out appeared for first time since we had been on board (1999.3 hours).<\/p>\n<p>We had an uneventful passage to Aqueduct Marina where we decided to pull in for pump out, diesel and water.\u00a0 We found this to be a first class marina with very friendly, thorough service and a campsite under construction.\u00a0 We met up again with the very friendly owners of Nighthawk who we first encountered at Harecastle. They had had to put in for a new prop shaft expected to take until next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>It was VERY windy and although we got into the marina and reversed onto the pontoon without any problems getting out again provided a bit of a challenge.\u00a0 Overcome, of course, with our usual panache.\u00a0 To tell the truth it was about a fifteen point turn!<\/p>\n<p>The approach to Barbridge Junction was not inspiring with wall to wall boats including numerous faded yoghurt pots.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after this we had to make a sharp right turn into the Hurleston Locks where we had to wait for one boat coming down.\u00a0 Right by the entrance to the first lock is a sign saying \u201cPlease raise your fenders\u201d.\u00a0 Longer notice would be helpful but as a top deck sprinter Peter managed to pull them all up just in time.\u00a0 It was just as well as there was barley room for a cigarette paper between Oliver and the lock walls certainly not enough for a fender!<\/p>\n<p>We issued ourselves with certificates of merit for having made it into the Llangollen Canal.<\/p>\n<p>We found a nice quiet place to moor just before bridge 5 and Peter managed to complete the construction of 2SP having remembered to charge the drill batteries during day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_203\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-203\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/toby200.net\/oliver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/HFM-Llangollen-30.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-203\" src=\"http:\/\/toby200.net\/oliver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/HFM-Llangollen-30-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"A Floating Island.
