{"id":144,"date":"2015-05-30T21:32:34","date_gmt":"2015-05-30T21:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toby200.net\/oliver\/?p=144"},"modified":"2015-06-24T20:42:40","modified_gmt":"2015-06-24T20:42:40","slug":"slow-going1-3-mph-and-we-had-covered-9-7-miles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toby200.net\/oliver\/?p=144","title":{"rendered":"Slow Going"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>30th May 2015<\/p>\n<p>We left our overnight mooring at just after 9am and soon cleared 2 locks.\u00a0 We then stopped to pick up diesel and leave behind unwanted waste products at Stone\u2019s Chandlery opposite the old Joule\u2019s Brewery.\u00a0 We met up again with single hander on Elk a 72 ft boat which had apparently been underwater for some years before being refloated but is still in need of a lot of TLC.\u00a0 It took some time to reach the last of the Meaford Locks by which time we had climbed a total of eight.\u00a0 We had by then covered 2.8 miles at an average speed of 0.8 mph.<\/p>\n<p>We met quite a lot of boats approaching the locks before Etruria and learned that there was an \u201cunofficial\u201d festival so we moored up early between locks 38 and 39. \u00a0Our average was by then up to 1.3 mph and we had covered a total of 9.7 miles. \u00a0In the evening we walked around some of the traditional and not so traditional boats at the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Is this the narrow boaters&#8217; dream house?
